Event Description

This course is designed to provide comprehensive training on the safe operation of scissor lifts. Participants will learn about the principles of scissor lift operation, safety procedures, hazard awareness, and regulatory compliance. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on practice, participants will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to operate scissor lifts safely and efficiently. 

The course is designed to be completed in one full day, typically lasting between 6 to 8 hours. However, the duration may vary depending on class size and the specific needs of participants. 

This course will cover:  

1. Introduction to Scissor Lifts

  • Overview of scissor lift types and configurations
  • Common applications of scissor lifts
  • Importance of scissor lift safety

  2. Regulatory Requirements

  •  Overview of relevant safety regulations and standards
  •  Responsibilities of employers and operators
  •  Documentation and record-keeping requirements

 3. Pre-Operation Inspection

  • Conducting a thorough inspection of the scissor lift
  • Identifying and reporting defects or malfunctions
  • Maintenance requirements and best practices  

4. Safe Operating Procedures

  • Preparing the work area for the scissor lift operation
  • Positioning the scissor lift safely
  • Operating controls and mechanisms  

5. Hazard Awareness

  • Identifying common hazards associated with scissor lift operation
  • Strategies for mitigating risks
  • Emergency procedures and rescue protocols  

6. Fall Protection (Specfici to Scissor Lift Use)

  •  Understanding fall hazards and fall protection systems 
  •  Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  •  Anchorage points and attachment methods  

7. Practical Training

  • Hands-on practice in operating a scissor lift
  • Maneuvering in different environments and conditions
  • Supervised practice sessions with instructor guidance  

8. Assessment and Certification

  • Written examination to assess theoretical knowledge
  • Practical evaluation of operating skills
  • Issuance of certificates upon successful completion

 

Important: Photo ID is required to receive a certificate. 

Successful participants will receive a certificate good for three years after passing a written and practical assessment.  

 

Delivery Method: Classroom Session 

Course Fee Includes: All books and materials, and a certificate upon completion.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

This course is suitable for individuals who operate or will be operating scissor lifts as part of their job responsibilities, including construction workers, maintenance personnel, and warehouse employees.

Refund Policy

COURSE REGISTRATION CANCELLATIONS, TRANSFERS & REFUNDS:

Cancellations received at least 14 business days prior to the course will result in a full refund.

Cancellations received less than 14 business days but more than 7 full business days prior to the course are subject to an administration fee of $100 per day for full and half-day seminars, or $25 for breakfast sessions.

Registrants who do not show up for a course, and/or who do not notify BCRB at least 7 full business days prior to the course date will be assessed the full cost of the course. There will be no refunds or credits in this case.

Substitution of attendees is permitted up to and including the day of the course.

 

COURSE CANCELLATION BY BCRB:

BCRB may have to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, in which case BCRB's liability will be limited to a refund of the registration fee.
